| Description: | The overall purpose of the workshop is to review and discuss the status, education and professional development of radiation therapists (RTTs) in the region, and to identify priority actions to strengthen their contribution to safe, high-quality and technologically advanced radiation oncology services. The workshop will provide a regional platform to examine education and training needs, national recognition of the RTT profession, the role of RTTs in quality management, and their evolving responsibilities in the context of advanced radiotherapy technologies, digital innovation and artificial intelligence. Specific objectives include: 1. To review the current status of RTT education and training in participating Member States, including existing curricula, continuing professional development opportunities, competency requirements and gaps that may affect the safe and effective delivery of radiotherapy services. 2. To discuss the recognition of the RTT profession at national level, including professional titles, scopes of practice, regulatory frameworks and mechanisms that support appropriate integration of RTTs within the multidisciplinary radiation oncology team. 3. To examine the role of RTTs in quality management in radiation oncology and contribution to continuous quality improvement. 4. To consider the evolving role of RTTs in a changing clinical environment, particularly with the introduction of advanced radiotherapy techniques, image-guided and adaptive workflows, automation, digital tools and artificial intelligence in clinical practice. 5. To explore how structured education and training pathways can support career progression for RTTs, including advanced practice roles, specialization, leadership responsibilities, academic development and retention of skilled professionals. 6. To discuss the contribution of RTTs to advancing clinical practice through research, innovation, and evidence-based implementation of new technologies and patient-centred approaches. 7. To facilitate exchange of regional experience, challenges and good practices related to RTT professional development, and to identify opportunities for collaboration among education providers, professional bodies, clinical departments and national authorities. To develop a set of priority regional recommendations and actions to strengthen RTT education, professional recognition, quality management competencies, and preparedness for advanced technologies and AI. |
| Applicants: | The event is open to up to three (3) participants per each Member State participating in RER6047. Participants must comply with the requested profile. Each country team will need to present on the status of RTT profession (a template will be circulated in advance of the event). |
