Fourth Regional Exercise on Forensic Examination of Evidence and Trace Amounts of Nuclear Material from Radiological Crime Scenes

Description:This exercise will enhance participants' skills and provide them with experience in: i) working with a national system of detection of nuclear and radioactive material and responding to a radiological event, as part of a nuclear security investigation and a nuclear forensics examination; ii) practicing cooperation and coordination between representatives of various agencies and structures involved in the investigation of such crimes; iii) executing work at the scene of a radiological event within investigative operational groups; iv) identifying seized nuclear and radioactive materials; and v) determining and carrying out different types of examination needed in order to investigate the event, including implementation of respective laboratory measurements.
Applicants:The exercise is targeted at law enforcement officials, first responders, forensic examiners, nuclear security officers, regulators, nuclear and radiation scientists, prosecutors, as well as foreign affairs specialists. Participants should ideally have some experience in working at international nuclear forensics fora such as ITWG, GICNT, etc. Attendance in the earlier regional Seminars on Introduction to Nuclear Forensics (Moscow, September 2017 and May 2019; Almaty, Kazakhstan, December 2019), and/or in the First, Second and Third Regional Exercises on Forensic Examination of Evidence and Trace Amounts of Nuclear Material from Radiological Crime Scenes (Moscow, 21-25 June, 2021, Moscow, 19-28 September, 2022 and 15-24 May, 2023, respectively), is an advantage but not a requirement.
