On 10 March 2025, the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, signed an amendment to Act No. 263/2016 Coll., the Atomic Act. The act of signing completes the legislative process of this important piece of legislation, which updates and clarifies selected provisions in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy and ionizing radiation and the relevant licensing processes.
The amendment to the Atomic Energy Act, which will come into force on 1 July 2025, reflects the latest developments in the field of nuclear energy and implements requirements resulting from European legislation and the Czech Republic's international commitments. The aim of the amendments is not only to increase the efficiency of regulation, but also to strengthen safety standards in the construction or operation of nuclear facilities, handling of nuclear materials and sources of ionising radiation.
The State Office for Nuclear Safety will be preparing implementing legislation and methodologies for this amendment in the coming weeks and months. We will keep you informed about further steps.
