Type Approved Packages
Products subject to type-approval
according to Article 137 Section 1 of Act No. 263/2016 Coll. and Article 11 Section 1 of Decree No. 379/2016 Coll.
- packages for the transport, storage or disposal of a radioactive or fissile material
- Type IP-1, IP-2, IP-3 and A for the transport of fissile material, aside from excepted fissile material;
- for the transport of 0.1 kg or more of uranium hexafluoride; in the event of international carriage of radioactive shipments pursuant to Point 34 of Part I of Annex 1 to this decree, type approval by the relevant authority of the state that the transport concerns is also necessary;
- Type B(U), B(M) and C packaging for the transport of radioactive or fissile material; in the event of international transport of Type B(M) radioactive shipments pursuant to Point 67 of Part I of Annex 1 to Decree No. 379/2016 Coll., type approval by the relevant authority of the state that the carriage concerns is also necessary;
- for the transport of a radioactive or fissile material requiring multilateral approval pursuant to international treaties by which the Czech Republic is bound;
- Type D intended for the disposal of spent or irradiated nuclear fuel or radioactive waste produced by its reprocessing; and
- Type S intended for the storage of radioactive or fissile material, including radioactive waste, specifically for special form radioactive material whose activity exceeds A1, or for radioactive material other than special form whose activity exceeds A2
- special form radioactive material (SF)
- low dispersible radioactive material (LD)
Mutual recognition of package for transport of radiactive and fissile material
according to Article 137 Section 4 of Act No. 263/2016 Coll.
If a package has been manufactured or placed on the market in a Member States of the Euratom, in Turkey or in a Member State of the European Free Trade Association, which is simultaneously a party to the European Economic Area, in accordance with the legislation of that State, the results of the findings made in that State shall be recognised provided that they guarantee a standard comparable to that required under this Act and that these findings are available to the Office. Such products shall be considered to be compliant to the product type-approved under this Act.
Comment: If a package has been manufactured or placed on the market in a country which is a signatory of international modal transport agreements ADR, COTIF/RID and ICAO/Annex 18/Doc 9284 and at the same time is not a country according to Article 137 Section 4 of Act No. 263/2016 Coll., the B(U) (if not a subject of transitional arrangements) and C type of package does not need to be type-approved by the SÚJB.
However, each type of package that is a subject to transitional arrangement requiring multilateral approval under ADN, ADR, ICAO, IMDG, and COTIF / RID modal regulations must be approved by the State Office for Nuclear Safety prior to its use at the territory of the Czech Republic.
Obligatory multilateral recognition of package for transport of radiactive and fissile material
according to Article 137 Section 5 of Act No. 263/2016 Coll.
The package for the transport of a radioactive or fissile material and low dispersible radioactive material subject to multilateral approval according to international agreements binding for the Czech Republic must be type-approved by the Office even in the case when their type has been approved in similar manner by a respective authority of a Member States of the Euratom, Turkey or a Member State of the European Free Trade Association, which is simultaneously a party to the European Economic Area, where the product has been manufactured or introduced into the market. Results of findings performed in these states are recognized if ensure comparable level as requested by this act, if the results are available to the Office.
Application for type-approval
Details of application for type approval (content, attached documents) are listed in Annex 2 of Decree No. 263/2016 Coll.
Fees for the issue of type-approval are, in accordance with Decree No. 634/2004 Coll., following:
1a) types for spent fuel from power reactors (VS 107101) | 100 000 CZK |
1b) types for spent fuel from research reactors (VS 107102) | 100 000 CZK |
1c) types for fresh fuel for power reactors (VS 107103) | 50 000 CZK |
1d) types for fresh fuel for research reactors (VS 107104) | 10 000 CZK |
1e) types for other nuclear materials or radioactive substances (VS 107105) | 5 000 CZK |
1f) for renewal of type-approvalls listed under letters a) to e) (VS 107106) | 1 000 CZK |
2b) other ionisation radiation sources (radioactive substances SF and LD) (VS 107202) | 1 000 CZK |
The fee can be paid by fee stamp on submitted application or by bank transfer to the account lead in Czech National Bank No. 3711-1824001/0710 (IBAN: CZ22 0710 0037 1100 0182 4001).
